The February meeting, held at the home of Deborah McDurmon, focused on “Safety Awareness.” Eighteen Alpha Sigma members were joined by Officer Thomas Spain and Officer Tiegner of the Collierville Police Department. Officer Spain led the presentation, speaking about recent crimes which involved one assault in a local shopping area parking lot and several residential car break-ins. Officer Spain emphasized the need to lock vehicles overnight and to be aware of your surroundings. He also warned of the danger of being complacent in a “safe” neighborhood. Both officers addressed questions from members, ranging from benefits of home security systems to domestic abuse.
After the informative session, members enjoyed sandwiches and other finger foods as chapter business was handled. The following announcements were made:

- April 27 – Founder’s Day luncheon at Ridgeway Country Club, 10:30 a.m. Reservations, $25, due to Penny Powers by April 17; choice of salmon or baked chicken. Emily Johnson will receive her 30th Year Pin at the ceremony.
- Alpha Sigma is responsible for filling the position of Events Coordinator for the Coordinating Council. Members were asked to consider volunteering for this leadership position.
- Xi State Conference, May 30 – June 1. Registration forms, due May 1, are now available online at www.xistate.org. A few pre-printed forms were handed out.
