DKG Alpha Sigma Zoom Chapter Meeting July 24, 2020 4:00pm
In attendance: Martha Baker, Kelly Beach, Sonja Glaser, Deborah McDurmon, Betty Only, Courtney Page, Linda Porter, Martha Reese, Judy Sandlin, Pat Spencer, Trish Stephenson, and Debbie Wooley
Sonja opened the meeting and Linda brought us a positive message. Trish gave a treasurer’s report. Dues paid for June and July total $2,240.00 plus $65 in donations earmarked for the auction at State for a total of $2,305.00. $1,730.64 for payment of dues to State and international (includes fee for money order to send as checks were not available at the time). This leaves a balance of $574.36. $2,727.69 remains at Orion. Making total funds available $3,302.05. There are checks to be deposited in the amount of $200. Based on dues paid or intending to be paid we have 3 reserve members, 31 active members. There are still a few members Trish hasn’t heard from and haven’t paid dues. She has reached out to them. Please let her know if you plan to stay active and haven’t paid your dues.
Betty talked about a $250 scholarship/grant we used to sponsor and she asked if anyone had any recommendations for worthy recipients of this scholarship/grant. Sonja encouraged us to think about it. It was discussed if it goes to a non member if it should be called a grant? Trish brought up that we send a $1 per member for a national scholarship since we don’t have an active local scholarship. Various members mentioned finding a way to award the grant/scholarship to a teacher at Brinkley Heights. It was brought up that we need an application in order to establish scholarship/grant. Also, that we will need a scholarship committee to evaluate applications.
Sonja let us know that Karol Shaul is the Nominating Committee Chair.
We discussed that next month's meeting where Diane Anderson will teach us how to use Zoom can’t be held at Germantown Methodist Church due to Covid (they are not having meetings in their building). Betty Only will contact Brinkley Heights to see if we can hold our meeting there either on August 8 or 15, so hold those dates open.
If we can’t meet in person we will have a virtual meeting on August 14 at 4:00pm. Don’t forget to wear your pin or send in a $1.00.
Respectfully submitted,
Courtney Page
