Our February meeting was held at Jim’s Place Grille in Collierville at 11:00 a.m. Members in attendance were Phyllis Agnew, Kelly Beach, June Douglas, Sonja Glaser, Emily Johnson, Sue Mason, Deborah McDurmon, Betty Only, Pat Spencer, Trish Stephenson, and Cecelia Stracener.
Deborah opened the meeting at 11:12 and announced that we had collected over $50 for Schools for Africa so far this year as the bucket was passed to collect more money. She also announced that Brenda West had decided to drop her membership.
Deborah introduced our guest, International First Vice-President, Becky Sadowski. Becky spoke to us about her current living/working arrangements as Vice-Pres and how that would change when she becomes International President(!) for the next biennium. While Becky is not on the board of the Vision Foundation, she is involved with that great program as one of her duties as 1st VP. She told us about its history beginning in Tennessee and then being implemented throughout DKG. She described the Professional Growth Award and the four Project Awards handled by the foundation. She explained the application and selection process and encouraged us to apply for grants or help other members to do so. Becky also described the International Education Foundation which she also monitors, the money it awards, and how that is another great resource for members.
After a great program, Phyllis passed the list of duties for Game Day so that we might sign up to help. Game Day is March 16, 10am-2pm at 2nd Baptist Church on Walnut Grove Road.
We also discussed the slate of officers for the next biennium and the need to fill the position of 1st Vice President.
After we enjoyed a wonderful lunch (Dutch treat of course!). Sonja moved to adjourn, the motion was seconded by Pat, and Deborah adjourned the meeting at 1:34 pm.
