Alpha Sigma Chapter Meeting
June 14, 2022
Our fearless leader, Sonja, came to the Olympic in Arlington prepared with a poem about Sewanee and lots of ideas and inspiration for our chapter committees. Our treasurer, Trish, gave out balance and membership numbers. The deadline to pay dues is June 30th. Sue, chair of membership, helped us update our data sheets with DOB including year. This is a great time to thank Kelli for the wonderful job she does sending out handmade birthday cards!! (Mine had a gorgeous watercolor Iris that I love and plan to frame.) Sonja had us check over all the committees and sign up to be on the ones that spark interest. Make sure you are on at least one comittee and volunteer to lead! We meet at least once a year to work on our comittee projects. For example: I am chair of the Legislative Committee and I’d like to invite the members (Trish Stephenson, Marjorie Bradford, and Carol Richardson) to read up on TN Ed issues and contact the rest of us if you learn of a need or an action we can support - start with Chalkbeat, TN.gov, TNedu, and other media sources. I would like to encourage the legislative comittee to follow TN education leaders and let us know when there are issues we can address and to report to the chapter. I know I am taking advantage of this outlet to push my committee. I am not selfish, if you want to record and submit the minutes, you can write about your interests too! :-)
Sonja wrote an acrostic poem about our TNSO conference. Attend, and you too will:
Strengthen friendships
Enhance knowledge
Widen your world
Allow connection to sisters
Nourish your soul
Enable professional growth
Energize yourself
We love Sewanee. We passed around all our rewards and discussed the activities we participated in. Highlights were: Betty sold out ALL of her scrubbies this year! (She is crocheting madly as we speak I’m sure!) Deborah entered our poster in the chapters’ display. All of the items (donated by Betty) were scooped up in the Silent Auction. We ate well, shopped, and had many adventures. Sonja befriended the State president of Kentucky, we updated our chapter rules on the ride up and built the new comittee framework on the ride home. Most precious of all was standing in honor of our sisters May Wren, Sheila Segerson and Emily Johnson during the Ceremony of Remembrance. Alpha Sigma chapter is 61 years old! We owe it to our past, present and future sister friends to carry on the great work and the seven purposes of DKG! So, come to the meetings, serve on a comittee and as an officer, take advantage of virtual and in person training opportunities, invite great teachers to join us and stay involved in this awesome organization!
