Old Business
We have a new member, Emma Griffen, that will hopefully join our meetings soon.
Trish Stephenson gave the Treasurer’s report - total funds available $2951.58. See report following minutes.
Trish’s mother has moved to Memphis and will be added as a reserve member.
New Business
Reminder to read Xi State news online. We had an article in the magazine about our August meeting held at the Linda Kerley Senior Center in Collierville.
Sonja Glaser encouraged us to keep a Journal on a regular basis. It’s a great way to remember important events and memories. She showed us a journal she has been faithfully keeping through quarantine.
Betty Only read some passages from Light From Many Candles: a History of Pioneer Women in Education in Tennessee. Included in the book are some well known Memphis educators - Dr. Folis, Rawls, Eleanor Olstein, and Mary Louise Oakley. Teaching has brought many new friends and DKG has reconnected many of us. It also give us the opportunity to encourage and help teachers still working in the classroom. Betty encouraged us to think of ways we can contribute to Brinkley Heights, and Penny Powers encouraged us to think of ways we can affect change by attending board meetings and encouraging governing bodies to teach history. Sonja offered that we could volunteer to review textbooks and other modern curriculum used today. Betty also mentioned we could ask Wanda Chism or Carol Richardson talk to us about current issues in education. Sonja recommended we talk to current teachers and ask how we can help them.
We collected $20 for Schools for Africa.
Be on the lookout for October’s meeting information.
