Pause, Permit, Promote
In January, we pause to reevaluate ourselves. Who am I? What are my values? Where do I need to grow? As I write this, I also pause to contemplate our country and the direction we are going and where we have been. I watched in shock the events that transpired on January 6. I alone cannot remedy the hurt our nation is feeling. I pause to think how I can help restore the feeling of loss or confusion to those around me. I also pause to think about the ones around me whom have lost family in this terrible pandemic. I pause to think about what is my role in Alpha Sigma and am I fulfilling it? I pause to evaluate my health: physically, mentally, and spiritually.
What I permit into my daily life and thoughts is up to me. What am I doing to make me, my family, my community, and Alpha Sigma better? Do I permit things I cannot change to control my life? Do I permit me to do the good I can? Am I permitting DKG and Alpha Sigma to enrich my life? I received an orchid at Christmas however I grow African Violets not orchids. Fortunately, I know Laura Evans is an orchid expert, so I called her for advice. I allowed or permitted her to stretch my house flower knowledge.
I want to promote the good and worthy. This morning I attended a Zoom workshop on “Chair Yoga”. Our presenter was Kat Smith from Chattanooga. You can go to tndkg.org/ to see the recorded workshop. Check it out. So much of Yoga is in the breathing. When was the last time you consciously took a deep breath or paused to breath? It was then that I realized I could not remember when the last time was. I learned so much during the workshop. If sign language is something you would like to learn, check out the recorded workshop “Sign Language with Cousin Carrie” on tndkg.org/. Maybe you would like to make miniature boxes? The workshop is Saturday, January 16 at 10:00. Sign up on the website. I am thankful for Betty Only promoting the Online Collierville Christmas House Tours last month. If you know of something we would be interested in, please promote it.
Thank you for your belief in me to be your president and for all your help in fulfilling my role. Each one of you has so many talents. I believe each one of you are beautiful inside and out.

Thank you, Beautiful People!

Last Meeting
Our December meeting was December 5 at Germantown Methodist Church. Amanda Warren spoke to us regarding her experiences in Africa and her daughter’s experiences as a teacher in a school there. We learned of the differences between our schools and theirs. I walked away with a gratefulness for our schools and a respect for the needs of the “Schools for Africa” campaign. We collected $41.00 for “Schools for Africa”. This money was added to our ongoing collection box. We also collected gift cards to disseminate to Early Career Educators. Martha Baker and Nancy Foshee distributed the gift cards. Courtney Page assembled a lovely informative letter on DKG and Alpha Sigma to be given with the cards.
