Engage, Empower, Involve
November! The colors that surround us: scarlet, saffron, russet, and gold; the crispness in the air; the tastes of juicy apples and warm cider; good books; cozy blankets; elections; and Thanksgiving. I have difficulty enjoying this beautiful time because I do not like the naked trees and the cold weather that comes after autumn. I need to value that here we are blessed to enjoy four seasons. Each should be appreciated for their value.
This year, more than before we need to engage with others whenever possible. That may mean we have to socially distance, wear a mask, make a phone call, do a “Zoom”, or “Facetime”. We need to have contact and connections. For the next two years, our Alpha Sigma Chapter Plan is to attempt to engage with Early Career Educators. We are going to try to connect with a few to see how we can help during this stressful time in teaching. Please share any names and how we can help. We not only need to help them but hopefully they will see the benefits of joining Alpha Sigma. We need to also connect with each other. Pick up your phone, send the card, or go by and do a “drive by” to wave and speak from a distance. Check on each other. Go to the park for a walk together. Meet at Starbucks for coffee outside.
Let me encourage you to apply for a Tennessee state office for DKG. Try joining a virtual event they have for us.Empower yourself to grow and thrive. There are a few upcoming virtual events to consider. Maybe, now is the time to take that class or start a new adventure.
Get involved this year. We can all do something. No “gift” is too small when wrapped in thoughtfulness and tied with love. As the clothing and shoe company, Nike says, “Just do it!”
Remember, we engage; we empower; and we are involved when we vote. Election Day is November 3.
Quoting Sargent Phil Esterhaus in the old police show, Hill Street Blues, “Let’s be careful out there.” As a teacher would say, “Hold hands and look both ways when you cross the street.” Be safe. Stay well. Take care of yourself.
