Dear Sweet Alpha Sigma Sister Friends,
Summer flies because we're having fun, but it is time for our friends who teach to get back to the classroom. They're in our thoughts and prayers as they begin a new year with a new set of learners and lessons. Shine on sisters, shine on! You do good work and we support you.
This June Betty Only, Trish Stephenson, Sonja Glaser and I attended Xi State. We had a wonderful time, learned a lot, and collected many superlatives for our chapter! There was an incident involving a stolen license plate so we have a new appreciation for Sewanee Police. But we managed to dodge the law all the way home by shopping and eating and shopping some more!
I want you all to feel pride in Kay Aldridge and Martha Baker for their service to the Memphis Coordinating Council! Kay is the Chairperson and Martha is recording secretary and membership chair. The MCC met Thurs.evening and we confirmed the details of our Initiation Ceremony. It will be held at 10 am on Sat. Oct. 29 at Ridgeway Country Club. Kay helped me make the arrangements for a $25 breakfast buffet in the ballroom, so our chapter responsibilities have already been addressed. (No decorations or songs to worry about this year.) If you wish to attend, and I hope you do, the absolute deadline to get your payment to Penny Powers is Oct. 23. We cannot accept any late reservations. If you are sponsoring an Initiate for membership, please get her name to Martha by Oct. 4.
Our first program will be a 'New Teacher Shower' at Panera on Sat. Aug. 19 at 1:30 pm. Please bring gift cards and/or school supplies to be donated to Early Career Educators at Brinkley Heights. We will have a quick business meeting and discuss nominations for membership. If you haven't already invited a key woman educator to join, this would be the meeting to introduce her to DKG and your Alpha Sigma Sisters. We also need volunteers to host future meetings. Please contact Sheila Segerson if you can host. Sheila is working hard on program arrangements, but her computer has been working against her. (We've all been there!) She will get the schedule to us as soon as possible - with a little help from her computer savvy sister friend Debbie Wooley! 😇
This is one of those emails that you need to flag for future reference. Time flies just as fast in the fall and these dates will roll around quickly. I look forward to being with you at every meeting. This is my last year to have the honor of serving as your chapter president. With your help we'll make it our best year yet!
Run through the sprinklers, go on a picnic, enjoy another sunset, sleep late if you can. Keep summer alive! See you soon.
